2- 4 Learn about the geology with Joe Botting
The Pales has a long and fascinating history, but that pales into nothing when compared with the ground is stands on. The rocks beneath the meeting house and exposed in the quarry contain a remarkable record of a lost world, exposed clearly to all who can read it. Around 420 million years ago, fine layers of silt and mud that form these rocks buried the carcasses of the creatures that lived in these seas, preserving them for us to wonder at today. A talk about the context of these rocks and the fossils within them will be followed by a visit to the quarry to uncover the ancient past for yourselves.
